WOMEN IN MINING AND RESOURCES SUMMIT 2016

             

Women in Mining and Resources WA (WIMWA) held their 2016 Summit on Friday 9thSeptember; the theme “Resilience, Championing Change and Moving the Conversation Forward”.

Women in Mining Western Australia aims to encourage women to increase their presence in the industry, provide a strong network for women, and for the industry to be proactive in attracting and retaining women in the resources sectorwww.womeninmining.com

WIMWA very generously sponsored a booth for Starick for the day as well as the production of a new pull-up banner and donations brochures, both of which were on display on the day. Signed copies of Rosie Batty’s book “A Mother’s Story” were also provided to raise proceeds for Starick.

Many meaningful conversations were had and connections made throughout the day, both with conference attendees and organisers, and other organisations represented on the day.

Starick would like to thank Women in Mining WA for their very generous support.

 

 

 

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMMUNITY FORUM 

On Thursday 8th September, Starick had the pleasure of participating in the Community Forum – “Domestic Violence, Let’s Keep the conversation going at a community level”.

The event was organised by Starick in partnership with The Older Women's Network WA (O.W.N.) and the City of Gosnells. Other partners were: Women in Mining WA, Lotterywest and Bendigo Bank.

The forum was attended by local service providers and organisations, and was aimed at, and designed to raise awareness of turmoil cause by domestic and family violence and to provide information about understanding and identification of those affected by domestic violence.

Speakers at the event included a wonderfully engaging Welcome to Country by Shaun Nannup and presentations from the Hon Liza Harvey MLA - Deputy Premier, Minister for Police & Women's Interests; Cr Olwen Searle – Mayor City of Gosnells, Rosie Batty – Domestic Violence campaigner and Australian of the year 2015; Sergeant Melissa Russell – SE Metro Victim Support Unit; Leanne Barron –CEO Starick; Anne Banks-McAllister – Starick Patron.

Starick look forward to continuing the conversation and raising awareness of domestic and family violence in the community. 

 

 

HARMONY WEEK FROM 15TH-21ST MARCH 2015

A display of booklets produced by the children at Mary Smith Refuge for 2015 Harmony Week. The theme was "We come from many cultures, we share one earth-we are all the same".

The display was used to stimulate conversation and questions from the children.
