Promoting respectful relationships and gender equality
Sport is an integral part of Australian culture. It is woven into the fabric of the everyday lives of many Australian individuals, families and communities. The Respectful Relationships Sport and Recreation program recognises this enormous potential for sport and recreation organisations to inform positive cultural change.
The RRSRP is an evidence-based program to promote and foster respect, equality, and inclusion. It supports State Sporting Associations, sport and recreational youth-based organisations, and local governments by building their capacity to promote respect, inclusion, safety, and gender equality, with the longer-term aim to create the cultural change required to prevent gender-based and family and domestic violence.
Starick is funded by the Department of Communities with support from the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS) to deliver the program, and there is no cost for organisations to participate.
Evidence suggests that communities expect sport settings to be safe, and for sporting organisations to work towards gender equality and the prevention of violence against women. With appropriate support, sporting clubs and organisations can tackle this significant issue and create lasting change.
The RRSRP is underpinned by research from Our Watch and the CITS’s Gender Diversity Case for Change, and aligns with SportWest’s True Sport framework.

It identifies key initiatives they have implemented which have delivered positive outcomes for their organisations, clubs, and broader communities, and demonstrates how generational change is taking place both on and off the field.

Interested in hosting a Respect Round?
Starick and SportWest have partnered to develop the Respect Round Campaign – A community initiative that champions respect, gender equality, and safety in sport and recreation.
Starick supports sport and recreation organisations to host a Respect Round by providing a Respect Round Campaign Kit, which includes planning and communications support, merchandise, and social media collateral.
In hosting a Respect Round, organistaions can raise awareness and create lasting change, by champion respectful relationships and gender equality, and promoting environments that are safe, respectful, and inclusive for all members, volunteers, families, and spectators, both on and off the field.
